Langkawi is nestled on the Thai-Malaysian sea border and is the main island from a cluster of 99 islands during high tide and more than 104 islands during low tide. Lying about 30km off the northwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Pulau Langkawi, as it is popularly known, covers an area of 32 848 hectares with a population of around 75 000 people. The inhabitants of Langkawi are a mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Thai. The island is steeped in legends and shrouded in mysteries.
